  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, and water.
  3. Bring to boiling; reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes; remove from heat, and stir in butter.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out in an 18x12-inch rectangle, and cut out six 6-inch squares.
  5. Peel and core apples.
  6. Place an apple on each pastry square.
  7. In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; sprinkle over fruit.
  8. Moisten edges of pastry with water; fold corners to center atop the apple, pinching to seal.
  9. Place in an 11x7x1 ½-inch baking pan; pour syrup over.
  10. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the pastry is browned.
Serve warm with homemade ice cream!
