Sugar | 1 ¼ cups |
Cinnamon, ground | ½ teaspoon |
Nutmeg, freshly ground | ¼ teaspoon |
Butter | 2 tablespoons |
Water | 1 ¾ cups |
Flaky pie crust dough | 2 batches |

- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, and water.
- Bring to boiling; reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes; remove from heat, and stir in butter.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out in an 18x12-inch rectangle, and cut out six 6-inch squares.
- Peel and core apples.
- Place an apple on each pastry square.
- In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; sprinkle over fruit.
- Moisten edges of pastry with water; fold corners to center atop the apple, pinching to seal.
- Place in an 11x7x1 ½-inch baking pan; pour syrup over.
- Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the pastry is browned.
